Reading Time: < 1 minute

The National Academies have just released a series of reports about how the The National Institutes of Health (NIH) needs to evolve to better support women’s health:

  • A New Vision for Women’s Health Research describes the state of women’s health, identifies major knowledge gaps, and assesses research funding.
  • Overview of Research Gap for Selected Conditions in Women’s Health is a workshop summary which collects insights from the public about sex differences and research needs in cancer, reproductive and gynecologic health, and mental and behavioral health.
  • Discussion of Policies, Systems, and Structures for Research on Women’s Health is also a workshop summary, in which the gaps and an overview of NIH processes, programs, and structures related to women’s health were discussed.

They have also created a simple but compelling explainer video for those who are new to the topic:

This is a fantastic body of work for those interested in this field both personally and professionally!

All the reports are available to download on the National Academies website.
